The Way of Saint James from Ponferrada
Ponferrada, one of the most popular starting points of the Camino, is where this route begins that will take you through the vitivinicola Villafranca del Bierzo and its famous Puerta del Perdón, to the emblematic village of O Cebreiro, already in Galicia, situated at an altitude of 1,300 metres, where legends and miracles come together.
Leaving behind the picturesque pallozas you will walk through peaceful areas of native forest, you will pass through Triacastela and countless valleys, hermitages, small churches and monasteries will give way to Sarria, the culmination of your journey.

Ponferrada is 200 km from Santiago de Compostela, which makes it an ideal place for many pilgrims to begin their journey. In this city you cannot miss the Castle of the Templars, declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument in 1924. We also recommend a visit to the Basílica de la Encina, the Church of Santiago de Peñalba and its numerous museums.

After a well-deserved rest in Ponferrada, we head towards the Bierzo region, known for its excellent conditions for growing grapes.
The 21 kilometres of this stage are a lot, so be prepared to put yourself to the test because there is plenty to visit in Villafranca del Bierzo. If we arrive in high spirits we can visit the famous Collegiate Church of Santa María del Cluny.Day 3
