  • Day 1


    Oporto

    Night at Oporto

    From Porto to Barcelos

    Night at Barcelos

    The road between Porto and Barcelos offers historical monuments such as the Porto Cathedral, the Vila do Conde Aqueduct and the Church of San Pedro de Rates. In addition, the beaches of Matosinhos and Póvoa de Varzim stand out. Barcelos is known for its medieval bridge and its famous market. It is a picturesque and quiet route, ideal for pilgrims.

    From Barcelos to Ponte de Lima

After passing through the town of Balugães, you will approach the valley of the Lima river, where the town of Ponte de Lima, the oldest in Portugal, awaits you.     From Ponte Lima to Tui

    The section between Ponte de Lima and Tui, part of the Portuguese Way, is about 45 km and crosses rural and mountainous landscapes.
    Highlights include the Roman Bridge of Ponte de Lima and the climb to the Sierra de Labruja, a challenge for pilgrims.
    In Valença, you can visit the Valença Fortress, overlooking the Miño River. Finally, in Tui, its fortified Cathedral stands out, a Gothic jewel.

    From Tui to Pontevedra

    Night at Pontevedra

    You will leave Tui walking through its historic streets to begin the ascent on your route north, and then you will continue with a descent that will take you to O Porriño, famous for its delicious bread. You will continue through the Val da Louriña, ascending towards Redondela, from where you can contemplate the views of the Vigo estuary. When leaving Redondela you will cross the Roman bridge of Pontesampaio, known for the battle waged by the residents against the Napoleonic invasion, and in which the French army was defeated. Next you will arrive in Pontevedra, a city with a fascinating historic center, especially the A Peregrina church.

    From Pontevedra to Santiago de Compostela

    Leave Pontevedra crossing the O Burgo bridge. You will continue crossing native eucalyptus forests and small streams that will take you to Caldas de Reis, known for its hot springs since Roman times, and Padrón, known for its illustrious writers Camilo José Cela and Rosalía de Castro and its famous peppers, be careful, some sting! and others don't! From A Escravitude, with its beautiful Marian sanctuary, the road continues uphill towards Santiago and soon you will see the towers of the cathedral. Enter the historic center, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
