Stages of the The Way of Saint James from León

  • Day 1

    León

    Night at León

For many centuries, León has been a stopping point for pilgrims along the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela. Once here, we recommend you visit its historic quarter and the Cathedral of Santa María de Regla de Léon. Of course, you should not miss a stroll through the famous Barrio Húmedo (wet quarter), where you can enjoy some good tapas.

  • Day 2

From León to Hospital de Órbigo

Night at Hospital Órbigo/Villadangos del Páramo

    31 km

    6-7 h

This route is the perfect alternative if you want to avoid the national road, as you will be able to walk through the countryside at your leisure.

  • Day 3

From Hospital de Órbigo to Astorga

    Night at Astorga

    22 km

    4-5 h

After several days of flat roads, it's finally time to return to the mountainous landscapes (although not for long).
The end of this stage is in Astorga, a town famous for its modernist architecture, where you can visit the Episcopal Palace, designed by Antoni Gaudí himself.

  • Day 4

From Astorga to Rabanal del Camino

    Night at Rabanal del camino

    20 km

    4 - 5 h

Crossing the picturesque region of Maragatería, today's stage runs once again through peaceful farmland until it reaches Rabanal del Camino, a small village noted for its churches.

  • Day 5

From Rabanal del Camino to Ponferrada

    Night at Ponferrada

    35 km

    7 - 8 h

Get ready for an arduous climb, because today it's time to visit the famous Montes de León, which separate the beautiful regions of Bierzo and Maragatería.
Today's stage ends in Ponferrada, the last city in León before crossing the Galician border, where you can visit its impressive Castle of the Templars.
